The team works in partnership with the child/young person and parent/carer, to provide 24/7 short break care to children/young people with complex health needs, in their own homes. This includes children/young people with multiple conditions and disabilities including those who are dependent on technology and require a high level of clinical care.
The team enable families to have a much-needed break, or support from their caring role and ensures the child experiences developmentally appropriate activities.
All clinical training is completed while in the role, however, the candidate will need to show a high level of understanding and the ability to learn and develop new skills.
A qualification as a Nursery Nurse or equivalent is essential to this post as it demonstrates understanding of childhood development which can be incorporated and adapted into the child's respite care, developing new and innovate ways of engaging in play and stimulation.

Main duties of the job
The Nursery Nurse is required to perform any care needs that the child requires during their shift. This is a varied and ever-changing role, depending on the child that you are caring for. This means you will be required to undertake competency-based training that is bespoke to our team and the needs of the case load. This is continually updated and adapted depending on need. While caring for the child you will need to have the confidence and understanding to work without direct supervision from senior nurses, although understanding the steps to take when additional support is required. Our packages of care are cross-county and as part of your role you are expected to travel and be adaptable to changes on the rota that can occur daily.
The team is managed by the Team lead, and care co-ordinators who you will be responsible to. They manage the everyday needs of the care package, arranging shifts, problem-solving, clinical supervision, and direct guidance.
We encompass community working and liaise with many professionals depending on the need of the child/family. As part of your role, you will be expected to be aware of these services, observe and hand over important information to aid communication as well as adhering to safeguarding policies.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
