- To undertake speech and language assessments of service users based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of information from a variety of sources including formal and informal assessment, observation and interviews with service users, and others involved in the service user's care.
- To provide timely and accurate reports that provide a diagnosis, assessment and recommendations and comply with best practice guidelines.
- To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the communication assessment, formulation and treatment plans of service users and to monitor progress during the course of both uni and multi-disciplinary care.
- To work with service users and other members of the MDT to achieve identified goals and to promote social inclusion, independence and well-being.
- To formulate and implement treatment programmes for the management of service user's communication needs and provide advice to service users with communication difficulties.
- To develop and implement individual and /or group interventions, in collaboration with service users and the MDT to achieve therapeutic goals.
- To engage the service user in therapeutic activities and encourage and support them to achieve their identified goals.

- Recognised degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
- Experience of working with a variety of service user groups
- Post-qualifying education in areas relevant to the post including autism, learning disabilities, and mental health in forensic settings.
- Experience in a specialist setting such as a prison, mental health, learning disability and/ or forensic.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills and ability to communicate sensitive and complex information.
- Collaborative and consultative skills within multidisciplinary working.
- Experience of working successfully within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good presentation and teaching skills

Job summary
An exciting vacancy has arisen within our Health and Justice Team across our London Prisons; HMP Brixton, Pentonville and Wormwood Scrubs. This vacancy is for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) at HMP Wormwood Scrubs.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative B6 SLT to join a growing team in the prison. Each Band 6 SLT will join an existing SLT lead within the prison. We have some flexibility in how the roles are offered and can consider part-time and/ or split-site working.
The post holder will have access to a peer supervision group. There is also a wider forensic SLT team within the trust consisting of SLTs within the prisons and NHS secure settings providing opportunities for development days and CPD.
The post holder will be involved with assessments, intervention, consultation and advice related to speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). They will be a key member of the team involved in developing pathways for DLD in the prison. They will have knowledge/ experience of working with a range of communication disorders, and will be supported to develop competencies with mental health, learning disability and autism. Experience of working in a forensic setting is preferred however we welcome applications from allcandidates who are interesting in working in this area and want to develop competencies. We have great opportunities for ongoing CPD and offer ADOS and ADI-R training to all SLTs who will form part of the autism assessment team.
