What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Supervise law students enrolled in the Indian Law Clinic and oversee their casework
- Represent and counsel tribal governments in court, including brief writing and client representation
- Co-teach courses on the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and related topics
- Collaborate on special projects and research affecting Indian Law Clinic clients
- Assist with data collection and reporting for grant funders
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Doctorate in Law (Juris Doctor) from an ABA-accredited law school
- Admission to, or eligibility for admission to, a state bar, preferably the State Bar of Michigan
- 1-5 years of experience in tribal representation or Indian Child Welfare Act-related policy work
- Strong public speaking, research, and writing skills
- Valid vehicle operator's license for performing job duties
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with the Clio case management system
- Background in educating and supervising students
- Relevant policy experience in the child protection arena
- Working knowledge of federal Indian law, ICWA, and state child welfare systems
