Job summary
The post offered is a fixed term locum specialty Grade Doctor position in liaison psychiatry for general adults and the older adult population up to FTE.
This clinical base for this post is primarily within the Royal Free Hospital Liaison Service at Hospital Pond Street London NW3 2QG. The offices of the liaison team are within The Grove on the Royal Free site. This is a fixed term locum position to August 2025 because of a short term vacancy. The Liaison service in Camden & Islington boroughs of North London Foundation Trust is a blended service working across our 3 acute sites and our innovative Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service and our Health Based Place of Safety (HBPOS/136 suite) and all liaison staff are also expected to be able to work at these other sites as and when needed.
The Trust welcomes flexible working arrangements and, depending on the successful candidate's preference/circumstances, the position could also be flexibly offered as a part-time job-share arrangement if there are other suitable candidates in a similar position.
The post-holder will also be expected to provide day to day informal advice and clinical supervision of trainees who may attached to the team (as a special interest) as required. The post holder will have operational responsibility to the Associate Divisional Manager and Divisional Clinical Director (or Associate Clinical Director) as well as professional responsibility to the Medical Director.

Job responsibilities
The post-holder will provide up to full time (10 Sessions) Staff Grade support to the team at the Royal Free Liaison team and wider liaison services.
The post-holder will mainly be involved in assessing hospital ward referrals but may also occasionally be involved in triage decisions when necessary and may also be required to assess A&E referrals who are admitted to ambulatory care in A&E and not deemed suitable for transfer to MHCAS.
They will assess new ward referrals and contribute to twice daily board rounds and handover meetings with the other medical staff.
Operational accountability will be to the Hospital Division Clinical Director/Associate Clinical Director and professional accountability to the Trust Medical Director. Annual leave and study leave are approved by the CD/ACD. Yearly appraisal will be undertaken with a consultant appointed by the Trust.
The successful candidate will be able to take advantage of internal training and academic opportunities.
The postholder will work closely with the Consultants in the Royal Free liaison and MHCAS/HBPOS team and the Hospital Division Clinical Director/Associate Clinical Director, service director, service manager and team manager to provide support and clinical leadership to the multi-professional group.
The post-holder will assist the liaison team in providing day to day clinical. This will include daily assessment of ward referrals at Royal Free Hospital; occasional liaising with emergency department liaison teams/medical staff; providing brief clinical reports and handover information to inpatient ward staff prior to transfer of patients subsequently detained under the mental health act and providing clinical guidance to other team members as and when required. The post-holder will participate in daily team supervision/clinical handover de-briefing sessions.
The post holder will work in an integrated way with the rest of the Royal Free liaison and MHCAS and HBPOS teams.
