      In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

      This position represents a regular full time training opportunity (theory and practicum) to prepare staff to work in the specified Island Health specialty department. Upon completion of the training the staff member will be placed into a regular full time rotation line in the specialty department that they have been trained for. Opportunities for part time lines may also be available based on vacancies on the unit.

      (Please note: There is an 18 month return of service requirement as a regular/permanent employee within the Island Health specialty department for which they have been trained.       Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration as a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and performs nursing procedures. The Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and according to agency operating policies and standards and unit specific protocols.

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education, Training And Experience

      Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.

      • Perinatal positions also require (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus breastfeeding course; or (b) 1 year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Perinatal positions also require Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years.

      Skills And Abilities

      • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with residents, families, co-workers, members of the multidisciplinary team and the public.
      • Deal with others effectively.
      • Organize work and implement a plan of care.
      • Demonstrate knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice as currently required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, including administering medications.
      • Operate related equipment.
      • Physically carry out the duties of the position.
