Overview Position Summary: The Senior Bioinformatics Scientist oversees the analysis and management of high throughput data generated from NGS or high throughput arrays. The individual will work closely with CHLA scientists, physicians, bioinformatics analyst and biostatisticians to provide customized solutions for a broad variety of biological experiments in the subject area of infectious diseases. He/she will assist with managing, analyzing, and interpreting data generated by parallel detection systems used in genomics, transcriptomics, microbiomics and metagenomics. The successful candidate will implement both software and hardware applications/systems supporting scientific data workflow processes and develop pipelines. He/she also provides research support to investigators and assists in training investigators and new users to use bioinformatics applications and databases. The Senior Bioinformatics Scientist participates in the bioinformatics group's independent research and assists in preparing and submitting manuscripts for publication. He/She also plays a leadership role in recruiting and managing junior bioinformatics analysts or scientists. Qualifications: PhD degree in bioinformatics or equivalent. Three years of hands-on experience in life science data, genomics and computation. Demonstrated ability to solve biologically-relevant problems requiring novel applications of exploratory data analysis. Experience in NGS data analysis is highly desirable. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required: Excellent English written and oral communication skills. Proficient in scripting languages (phtyon, perl) or Java. Proficient with R (non-coursework related) and relational database packages (MySQL). Knowledge of microarray and NGS data management and analysis. Knowledge of genomic database resources at NCBI, EMBL strongly preferred. Knowledge of hardware including server, network, etc. Ability to synthesize statistical and bioinformatics results into graphic and written form. Pay Scale Information USD $76,128.00 - USD $137,030.40 CHLA values the contribution each Team Member brings to our organization. Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
