        The Senior Director, Enterprise Communications plays a pivotal role in shaping the AAMC’s communications and brand strategy to align with and support the organization’s overarching goals. This role leads all facets of external communications—including public relations, media strategy, crisis management, executive messaging, and advocacy—to strengthen the AAMC’s reputation and improve its brand identity. By designing and implementing integrated campaigns, the Senior Director drives public understanding and cultivates positive media coverage. Leading a high-performing team, this role ensures impactful communication strategies tailored to diverse audiences while using data-driven insights to optimize efforts. Success in this role requires close collaboration with leadership to align strategies, set objectives, and drive decisions that shape the organization’s future.

        How will you make an impact?

        Enterprise Communications Leadership

        • Develop and lead the overall communications and brand strategy in alignment with the organization's strategic goals.
        • Be responsible for all aspects of external communications, including public relations, media strategy, crisis management, executive communications, and advocacy messaging.
        • Amplify the AAMC’s impact by articulating its value proposition, strengthen and protect its institutional position and evolve its brand identity and reputation.
        • Develop integrated campaigns and messaging to improve brand sentiment, awareness, and growth.
        • Develop and implement effective strategic communication plans to promote the organization's policy positions, advocacy goals, mission, and other activities.

        Messaging Frameworks, Campaigns, and Impact

        • Own and evolve the organization’s messaging framework, integrating constant measurement and data-driven insights.
        • Design and implement campaigns to increase public understanding of the AAMC’s goals, achievements, and reputation.
        • Lead the PR strategy and execution, driving positive media coverage and managing crisis effectively. Collaborate with PR agencies and internal stakeholders to appropriately schedule and tell impactful stories that differentiate the AAMC brand.
        • Leverage data and analytics to assess the effectiveness of communication, marketing and engagement efforts focusing on actionable insights beyond impressions and reach.
        • Ensure accurate, consistent message in organization’s marketing and branding efforts.

        Team Leadership

        • Lead a complex, high-impact team critical to the organization’s success.
        • Provide strategic and operational leadership for enterprise communications efforts targeting diverse audiences, including constituents, learners, policymakers, the academic medicine community, and the public.
        • Develop new insights and understanding of business performance based on data and/or statistical methods.
        • Exercise outstanding judgment in all situations, demonstrating integrity and high discernment in decision-making.
        • Collaborate with the Chief of communications and marketing and the communications and marketing leadership team to establish enterprise communications strategies and align goals of the communications and marketing cluster.
        • Partner with the Chief of Communications and Marketing and the Communications Leadership Team to set objectives and make decisions that impact the cluster’s direction and success.

        What will you bring to the role?

        • Master's Degree in Communications or related field preferred.
        • 12+ years of enterprise communications leadership
        • 12+ years leading complex teams
        • Extensive experience with advocacy and crisis communications
        • Proven experience leading an integrated communications and marketing team

        Remote Work Eligibility

        This position is eligible for remote work in the contiguous US

        Compensation Grade Range and Mid-Point

        Grade Range:$165,800.00 - $307,800.00/ Grade Mid-Point:$236,800.00

        The above annual compensation range and mid-point are general guidelines. For candidates who meet the criteria, the AAMC's compensation philosophy is to target the midpoint of the salary range. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

        If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
