      The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.Clinical Fellow ST1/2 General SurgeryApplications are invited for a 12 month fixed term post of Clinical Fellow ST1/2 doctor in General Surgery which is required due to a vacancy from October 2024.

      The Great Western Hospital, Swindon, is a modern 425 bed District General Hospital built in 2002 serving a growing population currently in excess of 310,000 and boasting state-of-the-art facilities.

      Main duties of the job

      The successful candidate will work within one of three teams; GI, Vascular or Breast. Together with their colleagues they will be responsible for the day to day management of their team's in-patients, perform the duties of the on-call general surgical clinical fellow (ST1/2 Level) doctor.

      Clinical Care

      The post holder under the direction of senior colleagues will undertake the below duties. These are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.

      Keep an accurate and relevant medical record

      Manage time and clinical priorities effectively

      The Department of General Surgery comprises Consultants, Specialty Trainees/Clinical Fellows ranging from ST3 to ST8 level and junior level trainees. Particular specialty interests include benign Upper GI, Colorectal, and Breast Surgery including laparoscopic Colorectal surgery and Oncoplastic reconstruction. It is a busy clinical environment with a large volume of elective and emergency surgery and scope for personal development. A number of our current trust grade registrars are completing their FRCS examinations.Swindon is a major town set within the rural beauty of Wiltshire, nestling between the Cotswolds to the North and Marlborough Downs to the South. Travel to major cities including Bristol, Oxford and London is easy with very frequent rail links and within an hour's journey by rail. The M4 motorway is within a couple of miles for travel by road. Locally, accommodation is affordable for this part of the country and there are excellent shopping, social and sports facilities within easy reach.
