      Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs , and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

      Position: Staff Accountant – Accounts Payable

      The Staff Accountant–Accounts Payable is responsible for reviewing and validating entries in the accounts payable system in a timely manner and processing payments. This position provides excellent customer service to vendors, employees, and others in response to inquiries related to accounts payable.

      Location: New York, NY 10020

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Associate's degree in accounting or related field with one year of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform duties with a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment is required.
      • This employee must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work as a member of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.

      Staff Accountant Principal Responsibilities:

      1. Review and validate accounts payable entries in Microsoft Business Central. Ensure invoices are accurately entered and supported for payment, and post invoices. Monitor accounts payable entries to ensure payments are made timely and accurately.
      2. Reconcile purchase orders to invoices. Validate goods and services are received for invoice posting and payment to vendors.
      3. Handle vendor and employee inquiries, including researching and resolving accounts payable issues.
      4. Coordinate and prepare check runs based on invoice due dates and payment priorities, and post payment batches.
      5. Reconcile vendor statements, including researching and resolving discrepancies.
      6. Provide support on accounts payable initiatives and projects, and perform other related duties as required.
