      JOB SUMMARY:

      The Staff Accountant maintains accurate financial records to ensure integrity of the organization’s financial statements and reporting. Performs general accounting functions for the museum, including monthly journal entries, sub-ledger system entries, bank reconciliations, balance sheet account reconciliations, as well as other accounting duties using Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting system and advanced Microsoft Excel. Performs financial reporting for grants and support groups as well as debt compliance reporting.


      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

      • Timely month, quarter and year end closing, including download of financial data from multiple sources and preparation of closing entries.
      • Reconciliation of multiple bank accounts.
      • Monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, accounts receivable, pledge receivable, deferred revenue and others.
      • Fixed assets accounting, including generation of asset records and depreciation schedules.
      • Grant Accounting and preparation of quarterly compliance reports.
      • Monthly accounting for museum investments and maintenance of files from various managers.
      • Prepare and reconcile Blackbaud Altru export for entry to the general ledger.
      • Prepare all Lincoln Park Society journal entries and accounting.
      • Prepare various audit work papers for the annual audit.
      • Monthly filing of report and payment of Illinois sales tax.
      • Quarterly/Annual debt compliance reporting.
      • Occasionally lift, carry, and otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 20 lbs. Frequent sitting, keyboarding, and use of phone and computer/monitor.


      QUALIFICATIONS:

      • BS in Accounting or equivalent.
      • Minimum of 5 yrs. accounting experience preferably in nonprofit accounting.
      • Minimum 2 yrs. experience in Federal Grant reporting and compliance.
      • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting system preferred.
      • Strong computer skills required, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
      • Proficient with an ERP conversion/implementation
      • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and demands while maintaining accuracy in work performed.
      • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
      • Accuracy and attention to detail.
      • Strong communication skills and customer service focus.
      • Commitment to the mission, values, and programs of the Chicago History Museum.
