      Provide high-level domestic support and hospitality to the Governor of NSW. Contribute to maintaining and presenting Government House Sydney’s heritage spaces.

      About the Role

      The Steward will provide essential domestic support and hospitality to the Governor of New South Wales, ensuring the highest standards of presentation for Government House Sydney.

      You are responsible for maintaining the Vice Regal Residence, providing hospitality including silver service at formal events, and overseeing the conservation and care of valuable heritage collection items.

      You will also be responsible for reconfiguring State Rooms for various events and managing the household’s supplies, with an emphasis on confidentiality and adaptability to a busy, high-profile schedule.

      Government House Sydney

      Government House Sydney, the residence and the seat of administration of the Governor of New South Wales – the oldest statutory office in Australia - is staffed by employees of the NSW Premier’s Department. The team at Government House Sydney supports the Governor in the conduct of constitutional, ceremonial and community duties.

      Collectively, the five functional areas (Protocol, Household, Estate Management, Communications and Secretariat) ensure that every aspect of the Governor’s and spouse’s programs of official engagements and engagement with the community are appropriately coordinated, managed and planned; that the official residence is suitably maintained; that the administrative arm of the organisation operates in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines; and that the heritage buildings, contents and grounds are managed and presented to the highest standard.

      We're Looking For

      • Experience in high-level domestic support, including cleaning, meal preparation, and laundry services for high-profile individuals
      • Ability to plan and deliver both formal and informal hospitality, including set up and service to ensure exceptional guest experiences
      • Experience in managing household supplies, such as groceries and cleaning products, ensuring timely replenishment and upkeep
      • You work collaboratively in a busy service delivery environment, remaining flexible and responsive to changing situations
      • You maintain a high level of accuracy and precision, especially caring for and handling heritage items
      • Ability to notice and address small maintenance or cleaning issues before they become larger problems
      • Strong ability to maintain confidentiality, working with discretion in high-profile environments and adherence to ethical standards, ensuring trust and reliability in all duties

      Essential Requirements:

      • A current accreditation for Responsible Service of Alcohol and Food Standards Code, and a current driver’s licence, and capacity for manual work (including at height).
      • An understanding of the role of the Governor and operations of Government House Sydney
      • Being available during varying hours including staggered start/finish times, early mornings, evenings, on weekends and public holidays to meet the requirements of the position
