- Bachelor’s degree in geomatics, resource management, geography or computer science or related area, AND
- A minimum of three (3) years of related experience, OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience developing and managing large spatial (digital imagery, LiDAR, inSAR) and attribute data sets and experience with database management tools and geo-referencing applications.
- Experience developing methodologies and performing custom geo-spatial data modelling and complex statistical analysis and interpretations.
- In depth experience in a Python developer environment.
- Proven experience in utilizing supervised and un-supervised AI, specifically deep learning (DL) for pattern recognition and shape detection in a multi data fusion environment (Imagery, LiDAR, Radar etc…)
- Proven experience in managing large geospatial projects (procurement, acquisition, production and QA/QC).
The Team
The Applied Geomatics Team at Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is a dynamic and established group dedicated to delivering innovative, in-house solutions for remote sensing and geomatics engineering applications, such as the Provincial Lidar and Drone Programs. Comprised of a diverse set of professionals including analysts, junior software developers, and specialists, the team fosters collaboration across various disciplines like data management, geomatics, and artificial intelligence (AI). The Role
In this role as Geomatics Specialist, Data Acquisition & Quality Control, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical products, improving data standards, and providing guidance on emerging geomatics technologies to both technical and non-technical teams. Your work will have a direct impact on making base mapping products more accessible and efficient, supporting key initiatives across the Natural Resource Sector. About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This is for one (1) permanent opportunity.
This position can be based in any Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship office. Some of the locations available are Victoria, Prince George, Kamloops, Vancouver, Nanaimo, Burnaby, Surrey, Kelowna, Chilliwack, Campbell River, Fort Nelson, Nelson, Smithers, and Williams Lake.
