Position Overview
At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Structures Staff Design Engineer to help us advance the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

Recent projects at Aurora Swiss Aerospace include the Odysseus large-scale solar-powered UAS, the Boeing Passenger Air Vehicle (a so-called “flying taxi” for Urban Air Mobility), the premium urban air mobility vehicle for Porsche. Currently bringing to market the next gen commercial eVTOL and several on-going projects not yet unveiled to the public.
- Serve as a member of a design team to join the development of unique Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for commercial operations. Focus will be on all-composite structures, with a minimal amount of support metallic components.
- Produce airframe structural configuration layouts and detail designs including preliminary sizing, joint layouts, interface boundary definitions of parts and assemblies employing metallic and composite materials.
- Create and maintain CAD robust models and drawings at component and top assembly levels.
- Ability to create parametric product geometry models desired.
- Work with senior design engineers and analysts for iterative evaluation of designs.
- Coordinate with manufacturing, procurement and other departments as required to take the design from conception to production.
- Prepare documentation to support design decisions and to resolve issues.
- Prepare presentations for design reviews.
- Assists the project engineer in preparing for technical interchange meetings and technical program reviews.Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or related field from an accredited university.
- Min. of 5 years work experience in the aerospace industry, composite manufacturing, or related field.
- Experience in Siemens NX and/or CATIA V5 with a focus on Generative Surface Design, Part Design, and Assemblies.
- Ability to create and maintain parametric models is desired.
- Strong interpersonal pro-active skills and demonstrated success working in and contributing to a highly collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written.Preferred Requirements
- Strong technical background including familiarity with industry standards for the manufacture, repair, and assembly of composite components for aerospace.
- Experience with engineering and manufacturing of structural parts and assemblies utilizing composite materials.
- Experience with the composite part detail process, including composites stacking sequence, lamination theory, honeycomb core, bonded assemblies, manufacturing assembly and fabrication processes, post-cure machining operations.
- Hands on experience is desirable.
- Experience with CATIA V5 CPD (Composite Part Design) and/or FiberSIM is a plus.Physical Requirements
