- Residency Account Management:
- Participate in all stages of residency application review and account adjustment.
- Coordinate closely with other campus offices such as Financial Aid, Human Resources, and Registrar to identify efficiencies and resolve discrepancies.
- Research and resolve high level/escalated issues and problems as they arise and make recommendations.
- Interpret Financial Information:
- Interpret financial information considering the complexity in automation and services for departments and the University as a whole.
- Develop reliable, data-driven metrics on all aspects of the business, highlighting trends and making recommendations for process improvement.
- Communicate reports and metrics as requested.
- Provide residency reports and training to various departments.
- Participate in developing thoughtful queries and reporting tools to efficiently generate data so as to help predict future revenue issues.
- Policies & Procedures:
- Make recommendations regarding policies and procedures and assist to enforce them within the department.
- Work with managers to draft mass communications and determine the populations that need to be notified.
- Customer Service:
- Function as a generalist in all areas of the Student Financial Services daily business which requires a full understanding of the Student Financial Services Office, as well as University policies and procedures.
- Provide support to the Customer Service area of the Student Financial Services Office, including the counter as well as answering phones and emails from all office email boxes.
- Conduct presentations during student/family orientations on behalf of Student Financial Services.
- Participate, as appropriate, in internal and external professional activities, staying abreast of emerging developments within the field.
- Provide training to new staff.
- Additional Duties & Responsibilities as Assigned:
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. As needed, and especially during peak academic periods, serve as backup cashier and check disbursement representative for the Office of the Bursar.

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) year of full-time experience in a business office, bank, and/or role related to billing and/or payment processing. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel (i.e. manipulation of data, formulas, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Business Administration, Accounting, Higher Education Administration or related field. Experience working in a higher education environment. Experience with a Bursar and/or Student Accounts related function. Experience with PeopleSoft Student Administrative Services and/or Student Financials. Experience with Google Apps for Education. Experience developing statistical queries/reports and analyzing data. Experience working in billing and collections. Knowledge of State and Federal Financial Aid policies, procedures, and guidelines. Experience with an administrative management software system (PeopleSoft, Banner, etc.) and/or a payment processor (Touchnet, Cashnet, PayPal, etc.).
Brief Description of Duties:
The Student Financial Services Generalist will pivot between duties related to overseeing and ensuring the timely and accurate posting of billing and payment information and providing customer service to the Stony Brook Community.Accordingly, the selected candidates must have strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to solve problems and make effective decisions. The successful incumbents will also have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for these roles is adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach.

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,026 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
