      Department Overview:

      The UW Sweet Corn Breeding Program conducts research on the improvement of sweet corn in fresh market, processing, culinary, and organic systems. The program trains graduate students in plant breeding and agroecology disciplines.

      Schedule:

      40 hours per week, plus additional hours during corn pollinating season (July through early August). During June the work schedule can be flexible.

      7:30 AM to late afternoon, M-F and weekends during July and early August.

      Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

      Minimum: $17.00 Maximum: $17.00

      Qualifications:

      - No experience necessary, training will be provided.
      - Successful candidates must be current or continuing (Fall 2025) undergraduate/graduate
      students.
      - Non-agricultural majors interested in an outdoor working experience encouraged to
      apply.
      - Applicant must PROVIDE OWN transportation to and from West Madison Ag Research
      Station.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      - Ability to work in a team atmosphere.
      - Ability to take direction.
      - Willing to work outdoors only.

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      Duties will consist of hand pollination of sweet corn breeding nursery, hand weeding of plots, hybrid evaluation (taste testing and data collection), trial and nursery maintenance, and assisting graduate students with data collection for thesis research.

      Physical Demands:

      - Work outdoors in summer climate conditions.
      - Most work will require the ability to walk continually each day.
