- Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing,
- Active Maryland Nursing Assistant Certification is required
- BLS CPR certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted
- Possess passing grade in Fundamentals/Introduction in Nursing course
- Required to attend all hospital, nursing, and unit orientation which occurs at minimum during the first 3 weeks of employment. (40 hours/week) January 2nd-January 19.
- Available to work at least one 12-hour shift a week during the school semesters
Student Nurse Externship
The Student Nurse Externship is a unique opportunity for qualified nursing students that have passed their fundamental/introduction to nursing course to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and engaging magnet teaching hospital environment. The Clinical Nurse Extern will be mentored by some of Johns Hopkins finest while being paid for your time. Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to; assisting the nurse in monitoring vital signs and assessments, meeting patients’ personal hygiene needs, assisting with ADLs, monitoring and maintaining accurate I&Os, promoting infection control and safety initiatives, documenting data collection and interventions inpatient charts by utilizing EPIC. This position allows you the opportunity to be in person at the patient’s bedside as an active member of the healthcare team and assist in providing patients with excellent compassionate care. Shifts: Varies; Minimum of at least one 72-hours per 6-week schedule during the school semesters, 40 hours/week during orientation and winter/summer breaks.
Location: Opportunity to work at Johns Hopkins Hospital or Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Campus
