      The West and Central Africa and Haiti (WCAFH) is conducting an external recruit for a New Business Summer Intern ! WCAFH currently has 7 active projects in technical sectors spanning economic growth, urban water and sanitation, water resource management, climate finance, energy, and peace and stability. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

      Position Overview:

      The new business intern is integrated into the daily work of the WCAFH New Business team and performs technical, new business, and project management tasks as needed. The intern also participates in professional development activities and practice networks to gain an understanding of the international development field and Chemonics technical areas. Through participation in the internship, the intern will develop a sense of business development processes for USAID procurement, observe proposal development for USAID projects, and build networks across the WCAFH Regional Business Unit, technical practices across Chemonics, and other teams in the company.

      Responsibilities:

      • Participates in all internship activities and events scheduled during normal business hours.
      • Develops a basic understanding of international development, foreign assistance programming, and Chemonics’ present and past contributions.
      • Learns the fundamentals of new business development by assisting members of a proposal team and performing tasks as assigned.
      • Provides research assistance for proposals.
      • In collaboration with proposal teams, performs new business roles, including but not limited to researching and writing about Chemonics’ corporate qualifications, assisting in recruitment of consultants for anticipated projects, and updating candidate CVs into Chemonics templates for USG proposals.
      • Under the direction of the new business team, updates marketing and proposal preparation resources, and conducts research on competitors and trends.
      • Reviews other implementer projects data in databases to support intelligence gathering for proposal development
      • Populates Chemonics internal databases, including proposal, consultant, and partners databases, as needed through research and analysis of USAID project information, previous G-trip notes, and Chemonics in-house practice networks.
      • Communicates basic understanding of development assistance work, Chemonics’ culture, values, and practices, and the specific scope and nature of project and proposal assignments.
      • Demonstrates maturity, dependability, integrity, and initiative to learn the international development field.
      • Contributes positively to a work environment that emphasizes teamwork, respect for differences, accepting and giving constructive feedback.

      Requirements:

      • Enrolled student currently pursuing an undergraduate (rising junior or senior) or graduate degree (first year of program completed)
      • Minimum 3.0 GPA
      • Demonstrated interest in international development
      • Experience studying, living, or working in West Africa, Central Africa, and/or Haiti preferred
      • Ability to work on a team and independently on projects and tasks
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills
      • Good organization skills and attention to detail
      • Problem solving skills and initiative to learn new skills
      • Familiarity with MS software and database systems
      • Professional proficiency in French preferred but not required
