      Position Summary/Job Duties:

We are looking for a literacy tutor to work with our 7 year old (entering 2nd grade in the fall.) He has made substaintial reading/writing progress during 1st grade and just needs someone who can continue to help him grow over the summer. At this time, he is likely in the early stage of full alphabetic for encoding and decoding (although his decoding is slightly stronger and might be into mid full alphabetic by the end of the year). Our goal would be that he would be at, or near, late full alphabetic in both encoding and decoding by the end of the summer, or making progress in that direction.

If we found the right fit, we could be open to starting before summer starts or continuning after the summer ends, but it is not a requirement to have on-going availability.

      Qualifications:

      Required:

At least entering final year of an undergraduate degree in elementary education.

Experience working with 7 year olds on developing their literacy skills.

Patience and an understanding of anxiety in young children.

      Nice to Have:

Completed bachelor's degree in elementary education.

Concentration or focus on literacy, reading, or reading intervention.

An understanding of MMSD literacy curriculum.

Experience teaching in an MMSD 1st grade classroom in the last couple of years (since the literacy curriculum changed).
