Job Description

Updating the Town’s development planning database (e.g. AMANDA);
Conducting preliminary zoning reviews for development applications;
Assisting Development Planning staff with day-to-day functions including helping with Minor Variance applications; preparing for Committee of Adjustment meetings; helping with Pre-consultation meetings; and addressing general public inquires through telephone, email and at the planning counter;
Collaborating with external agencies and internal departments within the Town to ascertain information or comments associated with planning-related projects and applications; and
Assisting with site visits to evaluate potential development proposals and inspections related to approved development applications to ensure compliance.
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in Urban Planning;
Proven ability to prepare clearly written emails, memos, briefing notes, and reports; and strong knowledge of methods and techniques for preparing effective planning correspondences;
Strong organizational, time management, and planning skills, including an understanding of Provincial, Regional, and Local planning documents, legislation, and processes;
Proven research and data analysis skills;
Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a team environment;
Self-starter, positive, confident, and approachable;
Excellent customer service and verbal communications skills;
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and
Possess a valid Driver’s Licence.
Terms of Employment
- May 5, 2025 to August 2, 2025 (approximate dates)
- Candidates must be available to work the entire four (4) month period
- Hours of work are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
- Position is expected to work at the Municipal office (Town Hall) at 65 Harwood Ave. S.
- Proof of Enrollment in Post-Secondary Education
- A criminal reference check that is satisfactory to the Town of Ajax will be required of the successful candidate
- Registrar’s letter confirming enrollment and academic eligibility for the next semester;
- Letter confirming your anticipated graduation date;
- Letter indicating that you have more credits left to complete in your current degree;
- Letter confirming your application to a program next term/semester at a post-secondary education establishment.
Rate of Pay: $18.47 - $24.41 per hour
