      Teck is looking for an experienced Superintendent, Projects to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Projects, Engineering and Shutdown Manager, the Superintendent, Projects is accountable for safely planning and delivering capital, non-routine and major maintenance projects at Trail Operations. The incumbent will work with the Trail Operations business areas to develop and execute work assigned to this position through all phases of project work.

      This role is based in the welcoming community of Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Here you will find outdoor adventure at your fingertips!       Responsibilities:

      • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
      • Lead and mentor a team of Project Engineers and Project Coordinators by managing day-to-day activities, providing strategic direction, driving performance and excellence, and organizing work to achieve a positive working environment
      • Manage and oversee all activities and projects ensuring standards, policies and procedures are followed
      • Drive a performance-focused culture delivering activities and projects safely, on-time, within scope, within budget and to defined quality standards
      • Provide technical expertise and advice for project activities
      • Initiate audits and reviews, approve corrective actions, and provide support and guidance required
      • Utilize JDE (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to perform cost and maintenance activities
      • Oversee the allocation of resources and equipment for assigned projects by planning, monitoring, coordinating, and scheduling resources and equipment
      • Identify constraints and develop strategies to ensure resource availability and appropriate allocation to meet project demand across Trail Operations in a cost-effective manner
      • Facilitate the next year budget planning process to forecast upcoming projects and resource needs, ensuring strategic alignment with company goals
      • Actively manage the planning cycle for the site-wide 5-year and 20-year project portfolios for capital projects. Includes facilitating and monitoring projects through the study and stage gating process
      • Develop and maintain cross functional working relationships with business areas to ensure priorities are aligned with business requirements
      • Collaborate with stakeholders prioritizing transparent and proactive communication
      • Recommend and implement improvements for projects and processes by identifying opportunities, working with stakeholders, executing improvement initiatives, and validating performance results (value engineering)
      • Develop and maintain relationships with external service providers, such as engineering consultants and contractors. Include development of Engineering Service Agreements or Master Service Agreements where required. Ensures that adequate external services are available to Trail operations in the required disciplines and that consultant or contractor performance standards are met or exceeded
      • Provide input into annual routine budget for department by monitoring and reporting on expenditures and identifying opportunities to reduce costs and explaining variances
      • Prepares annual and ad hoc property tax reporting related to Trail Operations capital projects

      Qualifications:

      • Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate, Engineering Degree or other related degree or certification required
      • Minimum 12 years’ of work experience including projects, engineering, and leadership roles
      • 6-8 years’ experience in a leadership capacity in an industrialized environment
      • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation an asset
      • Must hold a valid driver’s license
      • Strong digital literacy including MS Office, MS Project and a Maintenance Management System, preferably JD Edwards
      • Advanced analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
      • A proven, forward-thinking leader with a strong focus on safety, team building, performance management, productivity, and technical literacy
      • Excellent project management, organization, and prioritization skills
      • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
      • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills

      Salary Range: $135,000 - $167,000


      The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


      Please note this role does require the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail, British Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.
