- Collaborate effectively with the treatment team to address the needs of program clients.
- Communicate proficiently with co-workers, supervisors, directors, and clients.
- Prepare and send thorough daily shift reports to staff via email.
- Promptly notify the supervisor of any urgent client or program-related concerns during the shift or at the time of the incident, followed by documentation via email.
- Complete Incident Reports in accordance with the Support Staff Manual.
- Monitor and screen visitors, ensuring awareness of all individuals on the property at all times.
- Facilitate daily groups such as New Client Orientation, Program Rules, or Wind Down sessions.
- Co-facilitate New Visitor Orientation Groups.
- Conduct new client orientations, including reviewing the client handbook, introducing the client to staff, and giving facility/property tours.
- Inventory new client belongings, medications, and other items, ensuring both client and staff signatures are documented.
- Log medication under the supervision of a medical assistant or nurse.
- Utilize and maintain the new client admission and exit checklists.
- Escort clients to group sessions punctually and set up the group room as per the facilitator's direction.
- Conduct regular client rounds to track who is on-site or attending appointments.
- Supervise meal times, ensuring orderly behavior among clients, and assist the chef as needed.
- Support meal preparation and service when required.
- Conduct and document urinalysis tests for clients, tracking the frequency of drug testing.
- Participate in community outreach efforts, including neighborhood walks and driving as needed.
- Provide clerical support such as filing and data entry.
- Perform environmental checks by regularly walking the property.
- Conduct routine room inspections for cleanliness and contraband.
- Complete and submit the daily program checklist (e.g., repairs needed, room checks) to the designated staff.
- Accompany clients to nearby locations such as parks and grocery stores.
- De-escalate clients when necessary, using trauma-informed care approaches.
- Professionally interact with clients' families and external agencies while maintaining client confidentiality.
- Complete required addiction and cultural competency trainings each fiscal year and apply the knowledge gained in the workplace.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the alcohol and substance abuse field.
- Knowledge of de-escalation skills, motivational interviewing and trauma informed care.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of sobriety if in recovery.
- Computer skills (e-mail and Microsoft Programs).
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good documentation skills.
- Ability to work within a team structure.
- Adhere to Department of Public Health safety guidelines (currently mask covering and vaccine).
- Bilingual English and Spanish (preferred).
- Register as AOD Counselor (preferred).

Shift: Graveyard, 11pm- 8am, Sunday - Thrusday
Position Purpose:
The Support Staff position is located at the Mini House Residential Treatment Program for women and their children in South Los Angeles. This position requires a flexible work schedule as needed for the 24-hour residential program. The Support Staff is an essential position working towards the client’s success in residential treatment and supporting the clinical team to deliver services. This position upholds the JWCH mission to improve the health status and wellbeing of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles County.
