      Job Summary

      The Survey Project Manger is required to manage various types of surveys which including but not limited to boundary, topographic, existing conditions, right-of-way, transmission line, subsurface utility engineering, easement and construction layout. This role oversees survey venders and internal resources to ensure survey projects are safely, effectively and efficiently completed within operational quality, and budgetary constraints which align with departmental and PSEG LI requirements.

      The Survey Project Manager reports directly to the Manager of Survey Mapping and Field Services. In this role you will manage land survey work activities within the LIPA territory. This role is responsible for managing diverse survey activities of internal staff, field crews and vendors while providing advice to project teams. The primary functions will be to manage vendor driven projects including preparing RFPs, assist with hiring from the approved vendor list, schedule/review/approve all deliverables and invoices. Regularly oversee the survey work of assigned support staff and vendor crews. This individual may also attend project meetings, provide oversight on all Survey related tasks, proving to be an advocate for the department, providing the highest quality and integrity for daily tasks.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Manage Survey related work within LIPA territory by both internal employees and external vendors.
      • Assists with reviewing the work of Vendor; reviews and approves vendor invoices.
      • Perform quality assurance and control.
      • Provides direction and training on Utility specific survey work to Vendors as required.
      • Prepares RFPs, may assist with selecting and hiring Survey Vendor (from approved Vendor list), ensures all Vendor survey work is being performed within the scope of services, including schedule.
      • Reviews all Survey requests to determine the appropriate resources needed to efficiently complete the task.
      • Acts as the point of contact for all internal and external customers.
      • Provides survey related project status to the project teams or other business partners as required during all survey related phases.
      • Performs calculations, research, field and office tasks to support the accurate location of company property boundaries and rights of way.
      • Retains all required paperwork and Vendor deliverables to ensure recoverability if needed
      • Ability to perform basic record research
      • Ability to drive a light truck in on/off road conditions
      • Due to the nature of the work, individuals must be able to perform job duties in outdoor environments with various terrain, climates and weather conditions and must be willing to travel to field sites within PSEGLI service territory.
      • Provide training to office and field personnel when required
      • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

      Job Specific Qualifications

      Required:

      • Minimum of 10 years of Land Survey Experience
      • Expereince to include:
        • 5 years of experience leading projects
        • 5 years of experience managing and training staff
      • Demonstrate high standard of professional technical competence
      • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques, and instruments of land surveying.
      • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and terminology relevant to the practice of land surveying including construction methods, engineering plans and specifications is required
      • Thorough knowledge of safety rules
      • Knowledge of Land Surveying, mapping, legal documents, and real estate terms, familiar with standard concepts and practices
      • Knowledge of NYS statutes and boundary surveying
      • Ability to write clearly and concisely
      • Ability to provide customer service that meets or exceeds company standards
      • Must Demonstrate the ability to coordinate groups as well as to work independently
      • AutoCAD other survey CAD programs

      Desired:

      • New York State Land Surveyor License
      • Experience with Civil 3D
      • Knowledge of mobile mapping and laser scanning
