      Position Description:

      Provide systems engineering support to the Microgravity and Life Sciences Glovebox (MLSG) project; support technical risk management and analysis; maintain detailed knowledge of MLSG facility hardware quantity, availability, and life, both on-orbit and on the ground; analyze and resolve facility hardware anomalies; coordinate closure of technical issues. Other specific duties include (but are not limited to):

      • Provide technical support for payload design reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.), project reviews, and Technical Interchange Meetings, including those with PDs and IPs

      • Collect, review, and submit MLSG facility and integrated facility verifications to the ISS Program

      • Perform MLSG Project logistics and maintenance planning for ground and flight hardware (ORUs, life limited items, consumables, etc.); provide inputs to ISS Program and MLSG Project logistics and maintenance planning tools

      • Provide CoFR inputs to HP30 CoFR rep

      • Support ISS Program safety processes

      • Provide real-time support for on-orbit anomalies; support the troubleshooting and resolution of facility anomalies

      • Review ISS Program change requests (e.g. PIRNs, CRs, and CEFs) for impact to MLSG facilities; provide technical recommendation to MLSG PM

      • Maintain list of all chemicals approved for use in MSG and LSG facilities

      • Monitor and assess ALERTs that affect Project hardware; generate and submit all documentation by the ALERT system

      • Gather and integrate changes to facility ICDs/IRBs

      • Support program and project meetings (MLSG weekly meeting, ESA monthly meeting, boards and panels, etc.)

      Qualifications:

      Degree in Engineering or related technical field and a minimum of 5 years relevant systems engineering experience is required. Degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a Masters with at least 3 years of experience, or BS with at least 5 years of experience.

      Required Skills:

      • Working knowledge of NASA Systems Engineering principles and processes

      • Ability to lead an integrated team in technical reviews and working groups

      • Familiarity with configuration/data management concepts and tools

      • Familiarity with risk management concepts and tools

      • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively

      • Have experience in payload/facility hardware integration

      • Possess general knowledge of JSC databases such as ORBIT, VERITAS, etc

      • Extensive knowledge in ICD development, verification development, and verification submittals

      • Possess experience in hardware requirements

      • Have extensive experience in technical data integration and project coordination and be knowledgeable of web-based tools such as WebEx and SharePointE

      • Experience in database and spreadsheet development

      • Excellent oral and written skills

      • Possess strong problem-solving skills and proactively engage in the reporting of any perceived issues, shortfalls, life limitations, etc. of MLSG facility hardware to the MLSG Project Manager

      Essential Functions

      Work Environment:

      Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%).

      Physical Requirements:

      Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues. Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks. Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities.

      Equipment and Machines:

      Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

      Attendance:

      Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

      Other Essential Functions:

      The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

      Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
