      This position is to serve as the Warden (Senior Public Service Administrator Option 7) for the IL Department of Corrections at Taylorville Correctional Center.

      Facility Statement:
      To serve justice in Illinois and the Taylorville community and increase public safety in an environment that promotes successful execution of effective reentry programs to positively impact individuals in custody lives and reduce recidivism and victimization.

      Taylorville Correctional Center is a Minimum-Security Adult Male facility located on Illinois Route 29, 30 miles southeast of Springfield. The facility opened in 1990. Also important in managing the population is programs provided by the facility. These programs assist with population management and provide opportunities for inmates to improve their life and work skills to enhance their chance of success upon release.

      Essential Functions

      • Formulates and implements rules, regulations, directives, policies and procedures governing employee and individuals in custody.
      • Directs and evaluates program responsibility.
      • Plans and directs facility budget.
      • Consults with court officials, law enforcement personnel and other agencies regarding care and custody of individuals in custody.
      • Serves as full-line supervisor.
      • Completes inspections of overall physical plant, equipment and grounds for safety, security, sanitation, efficiency, maintenance and to ensure operational effectiveness of facility.
      • Travels to speak before civic groups and organizations to discuss programs of the facility and Department of Corrections.
      • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

      Minimum Qualifications

      • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology or a related field.
      • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement, public or private organization, a correctional facility or related field.

      Employment Conditions

      • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
      • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
      • Requires the ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws.
      • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
      • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
