PRIMARY PURPOSE:
In the absence of the regular classroom teacher to help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.
All of the following requirements must be met before your application will be considered for substitute employment. If you do not provide the required documents by the closing date, you will not be selected and will have to reapply for future postings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of 30 hours of college credit, verified by official transcript
Minimum of 12 days worked per semester

Add two (2) current supervisor/professional references who have first-hand knowledge of your character, scholastic and/or working ability.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Substitute Teacher Performance Responsibilities
1. Reports to school office at beginning of school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials. Follows sign out procedures as prescribed by the principal.
2. Follows with fidelity the lesson plan left by the classroom teacher.
3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
4. Maintains a neat and orderly classroom. Straightens chairs, tables, etc.
5. Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
6. Indicates to students at beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school and SMCISD Schools policies.
7. Insures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.
8. May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.
9. Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
10. Approaches behavior management with a de-escalation mindset first, following campus expectations for referring students to an administrator as a last resort.
11. Knows school procedures and regulations.
12. Performs other related duties as directed by principal
NOTE: Complaints made by a school principal about a substitute teacher may result in the removal of the substitute from the Substitute List.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise assigned aides, and/or classroom volunteers. Assist in the supervision of assigned student teachers.
