      Summary of Job Duties:

      The Department of Music invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor of Piano, starting August 14, 2023. This position is a three-year renewal appointment. The Music Department is seeking a candidate who is dedicated to the needs of the students, alignment of curriculum, using data in decision-making, and to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.

      The successful candidate will be a collegial and integral part of the Keyboard Area and the Music Department. This 9-month 100 % Teaching Assistant Professor of Piano position is a non-tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor. The position will teach applied piano to undergraduate and graduate students by designing graduate and undergraduate courses, providing curriculum material, constructing syllabi, leading classroom instruction, writing and administering exams, coaching, and evaluating students. Perform as a soloist and collaborative artist with faculty, guest artists and students. Maintain an active regional, national, and/or international performance schedule. The candidate is expected to recruit high-level piano students to the department, and to be highly invested in student activities, including leadership in local, regional and national MTNA opportunities while serving on various faculty- and student-oriented committees, and participating in the faculty decision-making of the Department of Music. The teaching load will be in the Western classical tradition, with possible augmentation in various styles and skills, including, but not limited to, jazz and commercial style, non-traditional repertoire, organ, and piano pedagogy and literature.

      Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


      Qualifications:

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • DMA, Ph.D. or terminal degree in Piano Performance or related field conferred by the start of employment

      • Professional performance experience in solo and collaborative settings


      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Two years of successful college-level teaching experience

      • Substantive evidence of success as a collegiate educator

      • Significant performance experiences in solo and chamber music

        About the Department:

        The University of Arkansas -Department of Music in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and home to over 300 music students and 50 faculty members in the Department of Music. Thousands of students from the campus community participate in the department’s 30+ ensembles including the acclaimed Razorback Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble, the University Symphony Orchestra, the Schola Cantorum, the Inspirational Chorale, the Latin American Music Ensemble, the World Music Ensemble, the Jazz Orchestra. Through generous support from alumni and friends, the Department of Music became an All-Steinway School in 2010.

        The Department of Music faculty and students present over 600 performances per year, on and off campus. All large ensembles perform at the 600-seat Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center. Small ensembles, solo and chamber concerts, and guest artists are featured at the 200-seat Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. University of Arkansas students and faculty are also frequent performers at various regional venues including the Pryor Center for the Arkansas Oral and Visual History in Fayetteville, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Arts in Bentonville and the Fayetteville Public Library.

        Northwest Arkansas is home to a rich and vibrant music scene including a large variety of music venues, recording studios, and non-profit music organizations. Music faculty are active performers across the regional Latin music, opera, jazz, bluegrass, and classical scenes.
