      Job Summary

      This position has the direct responsibility for managing the processes and resources required for the maintenance and administration of technical training associated with the Electric Distribution, Gas Distribution, Appliance Service and Customer Care apprentice occupational work groups listed in the job title specialty. This position is responsible for a team of Training & Development Specialists that conduct the training / instructional design which supports a safe, skilled and efficient utility work force based on job specifications, BU contract obligations, Engineering & Operational Manuals and regulatory requirements.

      This position has several technical training specialty focus areas (Electric Distribution, Gas Distribution, Appliance Service, Customer Care, Operator Qualification and Instructional Design) currently divided among four managers with this title.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Operational/Training Processes – Provide leadership, guidance and management of direct and contractor reports engaged in the delivery of technical training services
      • Performance Improvement Leadership - Responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of short and long term strategic improvement initiatives to close performance gaps identified by performance metrics or benchmarking. Manage staff performance to ensure continued improvement in processes and focus on improved training effectiveness.
      • Managerial, Development and Administrative - Promote diversity and foster teamwork, collaboration and a learning organization. Manage and develop staff and coach staff on individual development opportunities in addition to performing staff evaluations and feedback.
      • Manage client (LOB) relationships with subject matter experts, Occupational Work Groups and Bargaining Unit Leadership in order to identify training needs and related content to meet business needs.
      • Work with the Manager Technical Training - Development on existing curriculums and methods for effectively delivering course content. Contribute to the development and management of performance measures to determine training effectiveness. Work directly with the LOB to develop scheduling capacity models to ensure the timely delivery of training to meet the training demand on an annual basis. Develop alternate training methods to deliver course content that includes the utilization of technology; i.e. virtual realty, simulators, etc.

      Job Specific Qualifications

      Required

      • BS/BA Degree in Engineering, Business, Education, or a minimum of 10 years or equivalent experience
      • At least 7 years of indirect supervisory experience or 5 years of direct supervisory experience
      • Ability to lead teams and work in a cross-functional, results oriented team environment
      • Demonstrated abilities in the areas of focused actionable planning, leadership, team building, communication, change management, project, budget, performance measurement and continuous improvement management
      • Instructional experience or working knowledge of instructional design techniques, architecture, and curriculum development / maintenance
      • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations
      • Ability to facilitate joint union / management assessment teams
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as public presentation skills that efficiently summarize key points
      • Strong computer skills in MS Office and other Windows Applications

      Desired

      • Project management related experience
      • Experience in Learning Management System use and data management / reporting
      • Experience in alternative training delivery methods, including automated, computer-based or virtual / augmented reality applications
      • Process improvement credential (Example: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt)
      • Valid US driver’s license
