Join Southwest as a S ummer 2024 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 21 st to August 9 th , 2024 .
Work fully remote, with opportunities to connect with your Team and other workgroups virtually and potential ly to travel to visit our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX .
There is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work off-site. Those ineligible locations are Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.
Dedicate 40 hours each week to your internship responsibilities and tasks.
Receive hourly pay of $30 and receive a one-time $1,000 stipend on your first paycheck.
Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel) .
Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship.
Crew Training : The team is working on the TRIO system, which is one of a number of systems that help SWA identify, schedule, coordinate and track training events for pilots and instructors. Our Intern will partner with business stakeholders, architects and the Program Team to identify business, technical and non-functional requirements, document them in features, and bring those features to the development team so they will be decomposed into stories for development. Specifically, our intern will w ork with members of Flight Operations, Instructors and Technology to understand technical and functional features (requirements) that the development team will implement in the TRIO system, using the Scaled Agile Framework ( SAFe ).
Turn ART: One strategic priority for Southwest Airlines is to Modernize the Operation . Paperless Turn, one of the initiatives within modernization, provides Employees with digital access to information needed to execute the Turn . This Team is focused on the delivery of the technologies to become paperless . Our first initiative scheduled for 1H 2024 is to deliver the Operational Flight Plan through an application pushed out to the Electronic Flight Book (iPad) . Second will be adding the capability to log an aircraft fault and accept electronic signatures between Pilots and Aircraft Mechanical Technicians .
Source to Pay: Source to Pay is an end-to-end process that begins when a new product or service is needed by any department in SWA . The process takes us through the RFP, Contract, Purchase Order, Invoice, and finally paying our supplier . We have some gaps in our current systems that support this process and our Source to Pay project next year will implement new tools to address these gaps . These tools are SaaS based tools and will be integrated in with our core technology platforms.
Salesforce Center of Excellence: This role and Team maximize s the enterprise Salesforce investment through collaborative best practices, knowledge advancement opportunities, and dedicated support for Southwest’s Salesforce Community – spanning eight workgroups with Salesforce implementations currently.

Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) and Agile Transformation: We are undergoing a SAFe transformation in our space and have several Agile Release Trains (ARTs) launching in 2024. One of our largest will launch the week of 5/21-5 /27. We are also standing up Lean Portfolio Management for our portfolio and will be working to create standardized reporting and meeting cadences that help our executive Teams stay up to date on all the great work the Teams are doing. You will attend Team meetings, have focus time to work on tasks assigned to you, and be given the opportunity to evaluate opportunities for continuous improvement in our space.
Work with business customers to conduct needs analysis relative to systems a nd business processes in order to create quality technical solutions.
Ensure solutions are aligned with internal tooling, business strategies and comply with departmental standards.
Manage timeframes for designing, coding, testing, and implementing to ensure solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
Serve as a resource to ensure effective communications between business and Technology Teams.
Participate in systems and acceptance testing.
Scope of work varies depending on the Team assignment.
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process.
This position requires authorization to work in the United States as a permanent employee without sponsorship now or in the future.
Progress toward undergraduate or graduate degree in MIS, Business, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or Information Technology, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering or similar degree.
M inimum Sophomore status. May not have an undergraduate graduation date of May 2024 or prior, unless already enrolled in a full-time graduate degree program at time of application .
To be eligible you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student as defined by your university at the time of application.
Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required .
Basic knowledge of business analysis, process modeling and redesign is preferred.
Basic knowledge of technical environment required .
Exposure to Agile methodologies preferred.
Fundamental understanding of project management techniques.
Problem solving ability and strong written/verbal communications skills required .
Ability to stay organized and manage multiple and concurrent assignments under tight deadlines.
Previous analyst internship experience within the past 12 months preferred.
Experience solving business problems in a capstone or case competition preferred .
Works well in a culture that is open, direct, respectful, courteous and compassionate.
Required: Full-time 40hrs a week
Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule during normal business hours at a max of 8hrs per day .
Program Dates: May 21st – August 9 th 2024 .
$30 per hour + $1 , 000 stipend paid one time on first paycheck .
