      Job summary

      We are looking for compassionate and caring Theatre Health Care Assistants to join our team, to maintain the delivery of safe, high quality, patient-focused care within our Theatre department at Liverpool Women's Hospital

      Successful applicants with significant previous Theatre Health Care experience and proofof competence of the required skills for working in theatres, will commence as a Band 3.

      Successful applicants with no previous theatre experience will commence as a Band 2 and will be supported to develop the knowledge and skills to work independently. Upon completion of competence achievement and able to participate in on call emergency work, will automatically progress to Band 3.

      We are looking for forward thinking, highly motivated staff, who are able to demonstrate good time management skills, you will also need to possess good communication skills (verbal, written & electronic) and have the ability to work as part of a cohesive team.

      This post is suitable for unregistered applicants who hold NVQ2 or higher in Healthcare / Perioperative Practice / care certificate or equivalent, applicants without the above will be willing to undertake and complete the Care Certificate within 12 weeks.

      The successful applicants will give direct care to patients attending the operating department, in a safe and welcoming environment under the supervision of professionally qualified staff.

      Please note: This role does require you to work days, nights, evenings, weekends & on-call.

      Main duties of the job

      To perform as a safe competent clinical member of the theatre team and provide care for the peri-operative patient under the supervision of qualified staff.

      To ensure the cleanliness of all the Operating Theatre areas and equipment at all times and to participate in all cleaning programmes, including before and following routine and emergency operating procedures.

      To prepare the Operating Theatre prior to and following operative procedures ensuring correct equipment available and in working order and to notify the Registered Practitioner of any problems identified.

      To assist the Scrubbed Practitioner in the preparation and replenishment of sterile trolleys using an aseptic technique.

      To participate in swab, needle and instrument counts under the direction of the Scrubbed Practitioner and in accordance with the departmental procedure.

      To participate and comply with all aspects of any Local Safety Standards for Invasive Procedures (LocSSIPs) process and associated documentation completion during the provision of patient care.
