Assist students in developing individualized, realistic, and meaningful educational plans compatible with life and career goals, strengths, and limitations;
Utilize advising-specific case management tools to track communication with students, maintain student files, and document eligibility and services;
Utilize culturally sensitive/appropriate advising techniques to best serve and address issues specific to the Hispanic student population;
Support and guide students in their program as they initiate, activate, prioritize, plan, and execute tasks;
Closely monitor and actively support each student's course pacing, grades, and attendance, as well as progression toward degree or certificate completion;
Coordinate group information sessions, special programming, and other strategic activities to engage students and support their success.
Work with faculty to ensure students are fully informed of the expectations and requirements of the program;
Contribute to a program orientation for new students;
Support students’ social and emotional well-being in their program and their adjustment to a college environment;
Always using Texas-sized Care, make necessary referrals to support services such as ALA, ARC, CARE, Counseling, Testing, and other learning support resources.
Provide students support and resources in preparation for certification or licensure exams;
Support students with return-planning, as needed;
Establish and cultivate a positive working relationship with faculty and other staff to meet the program objectives. Work closely with TSTC staff while providing services to support student success and retention;
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of College policies, rules and regulations, and help students understand those policies;
Assist the Title V Grant Administrator in collecting information needed for reports required by the TSTC Office of Sponsored Programs and the US Department of Education;
Travel for professional development opportunities and/or for student enrichment trips at local, state, and national level;
Other duties as assigned which support the purpose and initiatives of the program as well as the College .
Required: Associates degree from an accredited college or university in education, counseling, public administration, student services, social work, or related field.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.
Bilingual (English-Spanish).
Required: Minimum of two years providing educational outreach &/or enrichment services to disadvantaged students; or, 3 years experience working as an advisor, counselor, or instructor with undergraduates; or, minimum one year providing academic-career financial aid counseling.
Preferred: Coursework &/or training in best practices for increasing retention rates, GPAs, & graduation rates of Hispanic and other low-income populations.
Bilingual (English-Spanish);
Strong oral and written communication skills (Bilingual required);
Strong group presentation skills;
Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and meet program objectives;
Must be able to work a flexible schedule of occasional evenings and weekends;
Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and caring for those facing barriers to program success;
This job description covers a position in which the percentage of time spent on the essential functions will vary based on the workload and will ultimately be determined by the supervisor.

Job Description
A Title V Program Advisor manages a caseload of students with a goal of providing comprehensive support for their technical program performance, goals, and timely completion. Utilizing advising theories, technology, and other resources, the Title V Program Advisor will work directly with students to support, encourage, assess and monitor progress in their technical program. The Title V Program Advisor helps students create individualized strategies for success, with emphasis on specific learning tools, time management, organization, self-advocacy, and decision-making. The Title V Program Advisor is attentive to students’ social and emotional well-being, offering referrals for students to overcome potential barriers to success in the program, and motivates students through excellent communication and strategic programming. The Title V Program Advisor pledges to actively engage in a Culture of Caring, striving to respond systematically to student needs and remove barriers that may prevent students from achieving their personal and professional goals.Essential Functions
