      About SGU: St. George’s University is a leading is a premiere higher education institution that grants degrees in medicine, veterinary medicine, as well as other degrees. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Transport Manager to join our dynamic team.

      Job Summary: The Transport Manager will oversee the transportation operations for St. George’s University, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of goods and services. This role involves managing the transport team, coordinating logistics, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

      This role is responsible for the operations of the Transportation Department, including the mechanics shop, the storage and distribution of equipment and other resources including diesel, and the attendant inspection and servicing of all university owned vehicles under his purview.

      The Transportation Manager must work effectively as the leader of their team, as a member of the Business Administrator’s team, and be a champion of the university’s values. The Transportation Manager will also work closely with all managers/Head of Department and Chancellor’s and Provost Offices.

      JOB DESCRIPTION

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Plan, organise, and manage the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.
      • Direct investigations to verify and resolve complaints.
      • Serve as contact persons for all workers within the transport department.
      • Implement schedule and policy changes.
      • Collaborate with other supervisors and staff members to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
      • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, and government regulations.
      • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
      • Ensure the development of bus routes and schedules in consultation with the relevant parties prior to the commencement of each school term to meet the needs of the university in a timely manner.
      • Ensure all Bus Drivers are fully conversant with all the bus routes to be used during the term
      • Ensure that all Drivers complete the mandatory eye examination yearly.
      • Timely production of required reports.
      • Assist in completing budgets, analyzing costs and operating in a fiscally responsible manner.

      • Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations and standards for transportation
      • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
      • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
      • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
      • Ability to handle complaints and resolve issues professionally.
      • Strong knowledge of transportation management software, system and tools.
      • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.

      Work Environment/Physical Demands

      • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
      • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
      • The ability to maintain good concentration while dealing with interruptions.
      • The ability to move around to various campus locations will be required.

      Hours and Travel

      • Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the core work hours of 10:00am and 3:00pm and must work 40 hours each week.
      • Limited travel may be expected in this role.

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Business Administration or related discipline
      • Minimum of 5 years experience in management or related field preferred
      • Proven experience as a Transport Manager or similar role.
