Undergraduate Education | University ExplorationThe Academic Advisor 2 in University Exploration within the Office of Undergraduate Education fosters student success by implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals with an emphasis on advising New First-Year (NFYS) students in the unit.
Provides and documents one-on-one advising to undergraduate students regarding degree and program options, academic standards, general education, prerequisite requirements, and major courses for specific degrees. Consults and/or elevates outstanding matters that students may have to more senior staff. Advises students dealing with academic, probationary, and financial concerns. Reviews and processes add/drops, withdrawals, and program changes. Acquires information for students, including academic, career, financial, psychological resources. Advises students on University policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters.
Takes leadership roles on key projects and processes. Assists in student orientation by preparing packets for orientation session, meeting with students and presenting orientation materials. Assists in the creation, revision and evaluation of NFYS Survey class. Manages and teaches introductory NFYS Survey classes. Conveys content effectively. Attends trainings and grades course assignments.
Serves as our team's primary representative for recruitment events for prospective students, some of which require out-of-state travel and (sparingly) evening and weekend hours. Identifies opportunities for projects and recommends to management. Engages in professional development, participates in unit and university-level opportunities. May participate on special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree or 2+ years of equivalent experience (Master’s required for teaching).
Understands and follows FERPA guidelines and engages in discussions with stakeholders. Able to readily articulate specific information on course content, programs, and policies, including specialty areas. Able to assess a student's potential for success in a field of study and make appropriate referrals. Demonstrates and applies historical knowledge of the academic advising profession, including GE, enrollment plans, changing demographics, etc. Able to apply theory to advising practice. Demonstrates advanced communication skills. Able to provide detail and depth to information conveyed. Able to tailor advising interactions to accommodate or incorporate students personal/cultural identity. Effectively builds relationships with students and possesses adaptive relational skills. Discusses relevance of program to students goals.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
Additional Information:
The pay range for this position is $43,900-$57,750. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
