- Completion of the first year of a calculus-based science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) degree program at an accredited institution. The declared degree must be Chemistry, Physics or Material Science.
- or completion of first year Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for Mechanical or Chemical degrees.
- or Completion of first year in a Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- or Completion of first year in Computer Science.
- Must be actively enrolled in school.
- Must have and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. (upload of current transcripts required)
- Must have:
- Planning/organizing skills and initiative
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Basic knowledge of scientific equipment, software, systems, calculations, and applications of scientific methods
- Ability to follow directions, both written and verbal, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong computer skills are desired, including MS Office and computer programming.
- The primary work location will be at the Special Technologies Laboratory (STL), located in Santa Barbara, California.
- A pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
THIS IS A CASUAL POSITION WORKING A MAXIMUM OF 900 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR.
We are seeking Science and Engineering interns for a variety of research and development projects at our Special Technologies Laboratory (STL) in Santa Barbara, CA. STL specializes in the focused development of special-purpose devices, measurement instruments, and analysis methods for government end-users. The laboratory is skilled in fielding complex experiments for field deployment or laboratory application of measurement and analysis tools, as well as deployment of resources and technology to support global field requirements of the U.S. Government. Since its creation, STL has developed a culture of innovation and a reputation for providing relevant solutions to difficult national security problems. Interns will work under the direct supervision of a manager & mentor and will be provided with hands-on participation in ongoing projects. Each intern will complete a project presentation at the end of the summer.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
