      About the role

      We’re looking for Underwriters to join our growing team in Personal Lines Prestige Unit!

      As an Underwriter, Prestige - High Net Worth, your work will have a big impact on our Personal Lines Prestige business unit. The position is a hybrid role located at our 700 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario.

      What you’ll do here:

      • Underwrite complex files within binding authority limit involving personal automobile, property and/or casualty policies in order to contribute to a profitable portfolio of business.

      • Ensure authorized limits are in accordance with established company guidelines, applicable laws and regulations as well as apply standard rates and premiums in underwriting quotes. Review supporting claims reports and legal background.

      • Act as a technical resource of underwriting knowledge for both colleagues and internal/external business partners. Assess, evaluate and process complex risks.

      • Develop business opportunities through building and maintaining strong internal/external business partner relationships.

      • Participate in insurance industry events, and promote products and services

      • Solicit new business and identify opportunities for profitable growth. Prepare business cases on files outside of authority limit.

      • Identify improvement needs and recommend process and/or technology changes to improve business results and maintain competitiveness. Assist with special projects and may back-up the team manager in their absence. Participate in large loss reviews.

      • Strong sales skills and business acumen; ability to influence brokers partners in promotion of products and coverages. Ability to demonstrate adaptability to change and dynamic team environment. Act as leader within business unit and display ability to engage the team.


      What you bring to the table:

      • Minimum of 1-5 years prior experience in personal lines underwriting and experience working with high net worth products/policies.

      • Strong sales focus and customer service skills with prior experience working with brokers preferred.

      • Sound knowledge of all Personal Lines insurance.

      • Proficient in MS Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

      • Able to analyze and interpret policy wording and legal documents.

      • Demonstrate efficiency and priority management skills to meet service standards.

      • Excellent written and verbal skills.

      • Post secondary education (college/university degree) preferred or a combination of education and relevant work experience.

      • Completion of or significant progress toward achievement of a Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.

      • Willing to travel to brokers' offices as required and in possession of a valid driver's license.

      • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.

      Note: The level of role offered will be determined based on skills, experience and education.
