- Compounding office stock drugs for use in nonfood-producing animals (mainly cats, dogs, horses, but also exotic/zoo animals, birds, reptiles, primates, etc.) - main focus
- Compounding drugs for food-producing animals (e.g., antidotes for cattle, sheep, goats, etc.) - limited focus
- Sedatives and anesthetics for free-ranging wildlife (e.g., free-ranging hoof stock, birds, fish, etc.). - limited focus
- Be a Board-certified Veterinarian from an accredited school.
- Possess a license in good standing to practice in the state in which the applicant is employed
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
- Knowledge and prior clinical experience with and dogs, cats, horses
- Knowledge and/or prior clinical experience with zoo/exotic animals and/or other (e.g., wild) animals a plus

Zimmerman Associates, Inc. (ZAI) has an immediate need for a veterinarian to support our project in Rockville, MD. Work is currently conducted remotely. The successful candidate will work independently and in collaboration with government personnel of the FDA Center of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).
The candidate will review a list of nominations for:
If the nominated drug (substance) meets certain criteria, the veterinarian will recommend adding it to one of the above lists. The veterinarian will research published scientific literature, veterinary or pharmacology textbooks, online veterinary forums, consultation with experts within and outside CVM, and their own clinical experience in conducting reviews and evaluating each drug.
Once each substance is evaluated, the veterinarian will complete a report that documents the findings, recommendations, and supporting evidence to justify the decision. The report will be submitted to the FDA for review and finalization.
The candidate will follow established guidelines and participate in meetings with other veterinarians to share insights, findings, and ideas. The candidate will collect statistics for reports.
