      Hours: 37.5 hours per week

      Wage range: $29.24 to $36.55 per hour. To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy.

      Status: Temporary Full Time - 6 Months

      Shifts: Monday to Friday, 7 am to 3 pm

      Position Summary

      Veterinary Technicians, within University Health Network's Animal Resource Centre, are involved in basic animal husbandry of multi species of laboratory animals and are responsible for the health and welfare of animals in their care. This position is primarily called upon for vacation relief shifts during the work week, Monday to Friday. This position provides animal care (husbandry and treatments) to a variety of species used within Biomedical Research.

      Duties

      • Cage changing, water bottle changing, feeding, watering and maintenance of assigned animal rooms as well as health monitoring and treatments.
      • Technical services such as weaning, DNA sampling, drug administration or blood sampling.
      • Day to day communication with laboratory staff, contacting them by email with any issues involving animal health and welfare.
      • Acting as resources for laboratory staff in terms of technical expertise, various sample taking and assisting in anesthetic protocols for laboratory animals.
      • Assist with administration of the facility: cage inventories, per diems charges, and other administrative details as assigned.
