JOB OVERVIEW:
United Way of Greater Houston is seeking an experienced strategic leader to join its executive team. The Vice President will be responsible for managing the affairs of Finance, Information Technology, and Innovation and Data Management departments. The ideal VP will demonstrate excellence in articulating financials, building business cases, and designing efficient processes for implementation. This critical position will lead annual and multi-year strategic planning. This position will have strategic and managerial responsibility for financial operations, ensuring that all such activities are conducted in an environment that fosters continuous improvement and innovation, safeguards assets, and mitigates risk. Position will report to the President and Chief Executive Officer and work closely with the Finance and Audit Committees of United Way of Greater Houston.
The Vice President and Chief Financial Officer/Chief Strategy Officer will drive an environment of transparency, accountability, and consistency within the finance and accounting functions. Oversees all treasury functions, including the management of working capital, financial investments and financial institution relationships. Responsible for oversight of the organization’s risk management program including contracts, enterprise risk management, and insurance. Additionally, position will work with UWGH’s insurance broker(s) to develop and maintain appropriate risk coverage. As United Way grows its government grant portfolio, the VP will build and maintain an effective compliance and monitoring infrastructure for federal grant monitoring. Moreover, the incumbent will be a key partner to organizational leadership to identify and drive technology innovations with the expectation of maximizing operational effectiveness, while reducing costs through greater efficiencies of cross
functional utility and/or scale.Additional key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing advice and counsel on all matters of a financial nature, including preparation and analysis of operating and capital budgets, long-range modeling, fund accounting and reporting, cash and investment management, and
performance analyses;
Overseeing payroll processing and compensation modeling;
Reviewing all contracts and negotiating certain contracts critical to the organization;
Developing policies and procedures to assure the integrity and reliability of activities, reporting, and services provided by the Finance Department;
Maintaining an effective system of internal controls and a program to substantively assure the safeguarding of assets and compliance with business plans, contracts, agreements, Board resolutions and applicable laws and regulations;
Providing training to direct reports as neededQualifications
