      Summary:

      The Vice President (VP), Information Technology (IT) will lead the ASPCA’s IT department, and provide vision and leadership for developing, enhancing, and maintaining the ASPCA’s information technology. The IT department aims to deliver technology support and services with greater speed, efficiency, and capability to meet the growing needs of the organization.

      The ASPCA IT department supports a variety of applications for a mobile, dispersed, and diverse staff. Our operations include an animal hospital, numerous community veterinary clinics, multiple animal facilities focused on behavior and adoption, a corporate office, a 24-hour call center operations, including an animal poison control center, and other field and remote operations. Directing a department of 33 professionals located across the country, including 5 direct reports, the VP, IT aligns technology strategy with business needs and directs IT staff to deliver solutions that enable the organization to achieve its objectives efficiently and effectively.

      This remote-based position (which requires up to 15% travel annually, as described below) reports to the Senior Vice President, Operations and People and is open to all eligible candidates based within the United States.

      Responsibilities:

      Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

      Strategic Planning and Execution (60%)

      • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team, Department Heads and other organizational leaders to:
        • comprehensively understand the ASPCA strategic framework and departmental operations to effectively develop and implement an aligned IT strategy
        • develop and implement policies and procedures related to incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity to ensure the organization's ability to anticipate, respond to and recover from critical incidents or disasters
        • identify opportunities to leverage technology to create business value
      • Lead the evaluation and implementation of advanced and emerging technology solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity, drive innovation, and maintain agility and a competitive edge in today’s digital landscape
      • Effectively translate technology strategy and proposed solutions into program impact and operational costs, including IT staffing
      • Ensure the seamless integration and management of hardware, software, and network systems, making certain that they are always secure and operating at peak performance
      • Take full advantage of major enterprise applications that the ASPCA uses, such as Okta, Workday, Box, O365, DocuSign, etc., including integrations and all available application program interfaces (APIs)
      • Develop and maintain the organization’s data strategy, policies and collaborate with organizational leadership to ensure the data strategy is aligned with business objectives and drives value from its data assets
      • Manage and maintain the organization’s data, ensuring it is safe and accessible and compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to information technology and data security
      • Manage the continual flow of technological change within the organization by dedicating resources to targeted communication, training, and feedback loops
      • Identify areas of improvement within the IT department in order to obtain better results, increase program impact, and reduce cost
      • Oversee the IT department budget and collaborate with senior management to manage the organization’s overall technology spend, ensuring that technology investments are aligned with business priorities; provide financial justification for proposed purchases and services including outsourcing of IT solutions when appropriate, and establish and oversee vendor/partner relationships and contracts
      • Maintain accountability for all customer service concerns, strategic concerns, and staffing concerns and be the ultimate problem-solver as needed

      Department Leadership & Staff Management (40%)

      • Maintain a workforce and structure that effectively delivers the IT team’s strategy, and foster an environment of accountability, frank and effective bi-communication, and team cohesion that attracts, develops, and retains top IT talent
      • Supervise and provide expert guidance to five direct reports and the teams they lead; direct, coach, mentor and inspire to support their success and the successful delivery of their work
      • Develop IT managers and leaders who can inform strategic decisions, work independently on large initiatives, and who can effectively grow their own staff to deliver results
      • Maintain a culture of continuous learning, including budgeting the necessary time and money that allows IT staff to keep up with technological change and support internal promotions and expanded responsibilities
      • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports
      • Consistently utilize ASPCA developmental tools and conduct yearly reviews of direct reports to measure progress and support professional development
      • Support the hiring process for IT positions as needed, including partnering with the People Team and involving all key stakeholders in hiring processes
      • Keep IT staff informed of organizational changes: continually translate all communications into IT-specific impact; draw links between different initiatives and how they affect the team
      • Keep the organization informed of IT Department and technological changes: translate those communications into specific program impacts

      • Must be available for off-hours support of emergencies
      • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time as needed. Travel is primarily to national ASPCA locations (about 5-15% annually)

      Qualifications

      • Possesses current and continuing knowledge of IT best practices
      • In depth understanding of current and emerging technologies
      • Knowledge of systems architecture, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data management are required; knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), case management and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems a plus
      • Visionary thinker who anticipates future technology trends and their impact on the business; proven track record of integrating new technologies into existing infrastructure
      • Capable of developing and executing a strategic technology plan that aligns with overall business objectives
      • Skilled in presenting IT objectives and issues to non-technical senior management and other audiences, both in written and spoken communication; adept at advising executives in technology utilization and strategy
      • Capable of building and managing a high-performing technology team, as well as establishing and maintaining positive relationships with other leaders and stakeholders
      • Demonstrates solid business acumen, with the ability to easily understand the organization's industry, market, and customers, and identify opportunities to use technology to create business value
      • Able to identify and implement short-term solutions that maintain stability and achieve operating improvements while evaluating long-term requirements for fundamental change
      • Proficient in leading and managing change, as technology is constantly evolving, and the organization must be able to adapt
      • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve complex IT issues; decisive and capable of making informed decisions under pressure
      • A commitment to service quality with a “leading practices” mentality
      • Knowledge of various software development life-cycle methodologies, including business requirements, project management, portfolio management, and end user support for stakeholders in different communities across multiple locations, including remote settings

      Work Experience

      • 10+ years of experience managing an IT division of a mid-size to large organization with multiple locations, with progressive responsibility
      • At least 7 years’ experience managing high-performing teams and building strong culture with inclusive and authentic leadership
      • At least 5 years’ experience developing and managing budgets for a team/division
      • Direct experience serving business users as a primary responsibility
      • Direct experience leading key IT business functions, including IT Business Operations, Enterprise Architecture, Applications & Products, and/or Technical Support.
      • Experience managing relationships with vendors

      Compensation and Benefits

      Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future.

      • The target hiring range for this role is $290,000 - $320,000
