      Department Overview:

      Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

      As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      Program Description:

      MSCR Wide World of Sports Camp provides a full day (hours 9am-4:00pm) of physical activity, focusing on having fun through sports skills, promoting active lifestyles, and fostering teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship. Weekly themes may specialize in a single sport in the morning, and in the afternoons we will explore other sports and group games. This Middle School camp keeps campers active and engaged throughout the day.

      Job Description & Duties:

      Guide and instruct a range of sports / group game activities for a wide range of playing ability and age groups in a day camp setting. Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere while working together with peers to plan camp activities. Program leaders are expected to lead a group of 10-15 MIDDLE SCHOOL aged participants in instruction and games.

      Start Date:

      June 16 – June 20 2025: Mandatory paid training (40 hours)
      June 23 – August 15: Sports camp program

      Work Location: Cherokee Middle School

      Qualifications:

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Sports playing background with experience in youth leadership.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Previous experience as a sports instructor/coach, childcare, or related field.
      • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
      • Ability to serve as a positive role model, mentor, and team member.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skill
