      Youth Care Worker Lead

      OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY

      In response to the humanitarian crisis at America’s ports of entry, (CPLC) Chicanos por la Causa will be providing short-term shelter care services for unaccompanied children who have come to the United States without a parent or legal guardian. (CPLC) Chicanos por la Causa will provide extremely high-quality, trauma- informed residential and educational services for unaccompanied children, with intense supports for their social and emotional health. We will also ensure they receive excellent and immediate physical healthcare including pediatric, dental and nutritional supports for every child.

      (CPLC’s) Chicanos por la Causa ultimate goal is to ensure every unaccompanied child who receives our services is successfully and quickly discharged into the loving care of their family sponsor and, during the short time they are with us, have received best-in-class medical, therapeutic, recreational and educational services designed specifically to address the traumas they have sustained during, and often before, their migration journey.

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

      PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      • Develop effective communication procedures with YCW team to ensure all children are accounted and supervised throughout assigned shift.
      • Oversee youth care staff and ensure completion of assigned duties and adherence to administrative and programmatic policies and procedures as directed by program leadership.
      • Report performance concerns and/or potential problems to program leadership.
      • Ensure proper ratio coverage on shift and communicate any needs or observations immediately to program leadership.
      • Ensure safety, security, and sanitation standards are maintained in all residential areas.
      • Responsible for the supervision of assigned on-site Youth Care Worker staff.
      • Provides documentation of supervision by completing a supervisory log for all staff supervised.
      • Report and properly document all incidents in a timely manner; prior to the end of the shift or within 4 hours as per ORR Policy on incidents characterized as serious incidents.
      • Assists during transition and movement of clients from one activity to the next and one physical location to another.
      • Must be available to fill in positions where needed when asked, this includes support in residential living, educational services, medical services, shower schedules, food schedules, and recreation.
      • May be required to accompany Clients in various situations, i.e. remain in medical area with client indefinitely, travel and stay with clients during program outings.
      • Participates in ongoing meetings, conferences, training programs as required.
      • Provides coverage for assigned staff when needed.
      • Responsible for adhering to ORR and other state regulations.
      • Participates and supports safety meetings, trainings and goals.
      • Maintains strong verbal communication skills with the effective use of tone and words.
      • Encourages co-workers to work safely, ensuring to maintain to all safety protocols.
      • Identifies “close calls” and/or safety concerns to supervisory personnel.
      • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
      • Provides supervision as assigned
      • Other duties as assigned such as travel or/and driving.

      OTHER REQUIREMENTS

      • Ability to sit or stand for more than 8 hours per day.
      • Must be willing to work overtime, if necessary
      • Must be able to display verbal and written communication skills that meet the requirements of the position and needs of children in care.
      • Ability to perform other duties as assigned within scope of work and responsibility.
      • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized, and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Proficiency with computer, common office equipment, and MS Office products required.
      • Must have the ability to resolve unforeseen problems with little or no direction from manage

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

      • High School Diploma or equivalent degree and a minimum of 1 year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents.
      • Associates degree with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience, highly preferred.
      • Minimum age of 21 years or older.
      • English/ Spanish bilingual capabilities required.
      • Must possess and maintain a current valid Driver’s License meeting company standards of insurability
      • Proficiency with computers, common office equipment, and MS Office products.
      • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, and be organized.
      • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress.
      • Must be able to perform emergency behavioral intervention (EBI) for clients in care when necessary.
      • Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations.
      • Clean criminal background check.
      • Clean child abuse and neglect or child protective services check.
      • Must be able to stand, bend, or stoop for the entire duration of the shift, as necessary.
      • Must be able to supervise clients indoors and outdoors throughout the entire duration of their shift period, which lasts 8 hours or more on a typical shift.
      • Must be prepared and physically able to respond with appropriate protocol in a variety of dynamic supervision situations with clients.
      • In a sudden or emergency event, staff must at all times be physically able to run, jump, lunge, twist, push, pull, apply approved restraint techniques and otherwise manage or coerce the full weight of client.
      • Ability to pass a medical examination to determine one’s fitness to satisfactorily and safely care of clients if accommodations are required.

      Effective January 3, 2022, all CPLC Employees and all Service Providers, are required to be Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19. Newly hired employees, who are not Fully Vaccinated at the time of hire, are expected to begin a vaccination series immediately upon hire. CPLC recognizes medical and religious exemptions to the COVID-19 vaccination requirement, in accordance with applicable law and upon approval by CPLC. However, any person approved for an exemption, without exception, is subject to masking, weekly COVID-19 testing at their expense, and other requirements established by CPLC from time to time.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

      Position requirements: This position is both a mobile and a sedentary position with periods of light physical activity, and is performed mostly in office surroundings. Positions typical in nature require regular walking or standing; sitting, lifting and carrying up to15 pounds; climbing stairs, bending, reaching, holding, grasping and turning objects; and using fingers to operate computer keyboards. This position will require the ability to speak normally and to use normal or aided vision and hearing.
