      Youth Programs (YP) is seeking a Youth Outreach Specialist(s) to support the Runaway Outreach Notification and Intervention (RONI) Project and the Denver Anti-Trafficking Alliance High-Risk Youth Multidisciplinary Team (DATA MDT). YP is responsible for managing programs and partnerships that divert youth away from or out of the juvenile justice system, additionally providing intervention and prevention for high-risk youth of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

      We are recruiting for a Youth Outreach Specialist(s) to work within the Runaway Outreach Notification Intervention (RONI) Project. This position supports both RONI and the Denver Anti-Trafficking Alliance High-Risk Youth Multidisciplinary Team, to include case management, assessments, direct client contact and outreach, data entry, community partnerships, problem solving, and ability to work independently. Must be available to work 4-10 Hour Shifts, to include evening hours until 6pm and some weekend day on-calls as needed. Shifts will be worked at both the Denver Juvenile Services building in downtown Denver (303 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, Colorado 80204) and in the community.

      Job responsibilities will include:

      • Conducting outreach in the community to youth through the RONI Project and DATA MDT, completing an assessment interview, using various assessment tools to appraise and interpret a runaway and high-risk client’s risk factors and needs.

      • Developing an individual program plan/contract with a runaway/high-risk client including attending support/prevention groups and/or cognitive/behavioral classes, counseling, employment preparation, participating in community service activities.

      • Regularly engaging with the youth in the community as a mentor, providing safety planning and harm-reduction.

      • Serves on committees to discuss issues and recommend changes to improve services/facilities for runaway/high-risk youth/clients and coordinates and attends meetings with community-based partners/groups, city personnel, and other governmental agencies for the purpose of youth/client prevention efforts.

      • Maintain client files and records consistent with departmental, local, and state policies, and federal rules and regulations.

      • Utilizes methods, techniques, and approaches to the delivery of care that are consistent with the age group, developmental skills, and mental health issues of the youth and in conformance with a specific care plan tailored to the unique issues/needs of each youth.

      • Accurately identify, collect, document, and maintain all data related to RONI Project and DATA MDT.

      • Transporting Clients to meetings, groups, appointments, etc. when transportation is a barrier.

      • Serving as a crisis response unit with the RONI Project, which would entail a rotational shift adjustment, and weekend on-calls.

      Our ideal candidate will have:

      • Familiarity with commonly used risk/need assessment and treatment assessment tools.

      • Understanding of effective interventions and evidence-based practices for working with youth.

      • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

      • Detailed orientated and working knowledge of Excel.

      • Ability to problem solve in stressful situations.

      • Ability to multi-task in stressful situations.

      • Understanding and experience applying positive youth development principles when working with youth.

      • Ability to work as part of a team and effectively network with a variety of organizations including juvenile justice, child welfare, public education, service providers and community-based/focused agencies.

      • Knowledge of the theories and practices of counseling and case management such as Stages of Change and Motivational Interviewing sufficient to be able to perform the duties related to the work assignment.

      • Prior work experience with combating Human Trafficking

      • Prior experience engaging/mentoring high-risk youth

      • Prior work experience with law enforcement

      • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

      • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Criminal Justice, or a related field.

      • Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience in performing case management including completing comprehensive needs assessments and developing and implementing case plans. Or one (1) year of experience in case work and counseling in areas such as Diversion, Probation, alcohol and drug abuse, community based treatment case management, or a closely related area.

      • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

      Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
